New Ham Shack Computer

I just upgraded the ham shack computer on the weekend. I settled on this one-

Compaq computer

My first AMD based computer ever. It has 2 cores and runs Windows 7 64-bit. I needed something more powerful to handle the Flex 3000 software defined radio, and my logging software and DM780 for digital modes. Of course, a new computer means one thing for sure if you use Flex radios – your station will break. It will take you hours if not days to get it working again, and that’s only if you’re pretty darn good at computers.

I can say now, after three days, I have everything working again and made my first PSK-31 contact tonight. I’ll follow up with some notes on what it took this time around.

See you on 20!
