SWR Calculator: Return Loss & Reflected Power

Want to know what your SWR reading really means? Our SWR Calculator converts standing wave ratio into return loss, reflection coefficient, reflected power, and power delivered to the load.

Enter your SWR and forward power to see how much RF power is reflected and how much reaches the load. The calculator is useful for checking antenna and feedline performance in amateur radio, SDR, and other RF applications.

SWR & Return Loss Calculator

Convert standing wave ratio (SWR) into reflection coefficient, return loss, reflected power, and forward power in a 50-ohm RF system.

Return loss —

Reflected power —

Power delivered to load —
based on forward power minus reflected power

Common SWR reference points

1.0:1 SWR0% reflected
1.5:1 SWR4.0% reflected
2.0:1 SWR11.1% reflected
3.0:1 SWR25.0% reflected
What the numbers mean: SWR describes the relationship between forward and reflected waves on a transmission line. Return loss expresses the same mismatch in decibels, while reflected power shows the fraction of incident power reflected back toward the source. An SWR of 1:1 represents a matched load; higher SWR indicates greater mismatch.

Important limitation

This calculator assumes the SWR value is measured at the reference point being analyzed and treats forward power as incident power at that point. In a real feedline, cable loss and the measurement location can affect the relationship between transmitter power, forward power, reflected power, and antenna power.
